The Grand Weaver

The Grand Weaver

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me. Grant Colfax Tullar

The night of Keisha’s accident, God, our Grand Weaver, held the threads in His hands to continue weaving His tapestry. An intricate tapestry woven with the lives of people that He had carefully selected to form a beautiful picture of His plans and purposes for them. That night, the lives of Samantha, Joe, Keisha and Macon became inextricably woven together.

A poem called The Weaver, written by Grant Colfax Tullar, beautifully illustrates how God uses every detail of our lives to bring His plans to fruition.

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colours as He weaves steadily.
Sometimes He chooses dark threads and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper and I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver’s skilful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver, in the pattern He has planned.

The night the lives of Samantha, Keisha and Macon became intertwined, they were barely hanging on. The dark threads of their lives seemed to be hanging loosely. At that moment, they were unaware that the Grand Weaver held their loose threads firmly in His skilful hands, ready to place them on His divine loom. Ready to intertwine the dark thread of sorrow and pain with the threads of gold and silver. The threads of hope and trust. Of praise and joy. The threads that slowly become visible while the Weaver worked at the loom.

Pattern For Good

For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You. Psalm 71:5-6 (NKJV)

In our times of pain and hardship, we can, just as the psalmist did, declare that our hope and our trust are in the Lord because we have seen the hand of the Weaver work before. We have seen the Hand of the Weaver take our loose threads and weave them together into a pattern for good (Romans 8:28). Into a pattern that gives us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Let us trust the Hand of our loving Weaver to take our pain and sorrow and turn them into joyful praise. Let us yield to Him as we look not to the underside, but wait for Him as He unrolls the beautiful canvas of our lives - His beautiful plans and purposes for our good and His glory.

Moreover, we know that to those who love God, who are called according to his plan, everything that happens fits into a pattern for good. Romans 8:28 (J.B. Phillips)

Reflection:

Will you give God your loose threads of pain and sorrow so that He can weave it into them pattern for good?

Prayer:

Lord, You see my loose threads of pain and sorrow. I surrender them to You. Take them and weave them into Your tapestry. Help me to wait for You to reveal Your plans and purposes in this season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
