Great Is Your Faithfulness

Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Psalm 36:5 (ESV)
Today we will proclaim and pray using verses of Scripture from Lamentations 3:21-26.
The book of Lamentations was written by the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah is called the weeping prophet because of his deep grief and sorrow over Judah’s continued disobedience towards God and their blatant idolatry.
In chapter 23, the nation of Judah is personified. Judah is seen as a man who has been afflicted. A man who is in despair. He finds himself in a dark place with no way of escape. He is distraught and feels the woundedness of his heart. He tastes the bitterness that strips him of his peace and joy. He is engulfed in hopelessness. But then he remembers that the Lord’s love is steadfast. It is unchanging. Always there for him. Ready to save and redeem even those who have turned away from Him. Those who are ready to turn back to Him.
Lamentations 3:21-23 (ESV)
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
He remembers that His hope is in the Lord, not in the situation he sees with his carnal eyes. He remembers that His hope is in God’s unchangeable character. He remembers that the Lord’s mercies have saved him before and will surely save him again. The Lord’s endless mercies are there for him. He can count on them each day. He can count on the Lord’s great faithfulness.
Proclaim & Pray: Lord, I call to mind who You are, and therefore I have hope. I call to mind Your unchanging character. Your steadfast love, Lord, never ceases. Your mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:24-26 ESV)
The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
His renewed understanding of the Lord’s faithfulness shifts his mindset. It helps him to see that the Lord, Yahweh, is his portion. He is enough for him and therefore all He needs. This puts his soul at rest. It gives him hope as he seeks his face. It gives him the patience and endurance to wait quietly on Yahweh, the only One who can save him.
Proclaim & Pray: Lord, You are my portion; therefore I will hope in You. You are good to me, Lord. So I wait for You and seek You. I will wait quietly for Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God is true. His Word of Promise is sure. In all His relations with His people, God is faithful. He may be safely relied upon. No one ever yet really trusted Him in vain. We find this precious truth expressed almost everywhere in the Scriptures, for His people need to know that faithfulness is an essential part of the Divine character. This is the basis of our confidence in Him. A.W. Pink
