The Treasures Of Our Heart
Share
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus cares about our souls, our hearts, our emotional and mental well-being? In our pray and proclaim devotional today, we will use verses of Scripture from Matthew 6 to proclaim and pray into. We will look at the verses about the treasure, the blessings we have received from the Lord.
Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV)
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Here Jesus speaks about earthly treasures – money and possessions. He encourages us not to store up earthly treasures because they are, by their very nature, prone to decay and destruction. We risk losing them. Earthly treasures have no eternal value unless we use them wisely and generously for God’s kingdom (2 Corinthians 8:1–5). After all, our finances and our possessions are blessings from the Lord.
Good stewardship and generosity should flow naturally when we are devoted to Jesus Christ. As good stewards, we will be less inclined to allow money and possessions to rule our lives and become idols. When we practice good stewardship, we are about our Father’s business. Our hearts are fixed on the eternal. We store our treasures in heaven, where they cannot decay or be destroyed. When we do this, our lives will be transformed. We will bear fruit of eternal value. Fruit of joy and peace that will positively impact our hearts and our emotional well-being.
Proclaim & Pray: Lord, help me not to lay up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Help me, Lord, to lay up treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Help me to set my mind on things of eternal value so that I may be a good steward of what you have blessed me with.
Whom Will You Serve?
Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
This verse ties in with verses 19-21. Jesus makes it clear that we cannot be loyal to both earthly treasure and heavenly treasure. We cannot serve both God and money. Jesus is very clear about this. We must choose whom we will serve - earthly treasures or our heavenly Father. When our adoration and our devotion are directed towards our Heavenly Father, the things of this world will not be our ultimate satisfaction. Our satisfaction will be found in our worship of Him only.
Proclaim & Pray: Lord, I proclaim that I will serve You, not my money and my possessions. I pray that I will find my ultimate satisfaction in You, and not in the things of this world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
