Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isaiah 46:10 (NIV)

Today we will use the beautiful Psalm 139 one last time to proclaim and pray into. This time we will look at verses 13-18. These verses speak of a loving Creator God who knew us before the foundations of the world (Ephesians 1:4), before He formed us in our mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5).

Psalm 139:13-15 (NIV)

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

God created every part of who we are - body, mind, soul, spirit - in our mother’s womb. I like the idea that He knits us together. It evokes the image of God putting us together exactly the way He intended. It evokes the image of our Master Craftsman intricately forming us with great care and love.

He creates us fearfully and wonderfully as His masterpiece, mindful of our worth, who we are to become, and the unique plans He has for us. This profound understanding ought to compel us to praise God for His glorious power. It should assure us that God knew what He was doing when He formed us, and He knows what He is doing in our lives now. Nothing was hidden from Him when He wove us in the depths of our mother’s womb. And nothing is hidden from Him now. He knows us through and through. Our lives matter to Him.

Pray & Proclaim:

Thank You, Lord, for creating my inmost being; for knitting me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame, the essence of who I am, was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Reveal Your plans and purposes to me for this season. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 139:16-18 (NIV)

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand – when I awake, I am still with you.

God makes known the end from the beginning of all of creation, including our lives. He makes known to us His vast and precious thoughts towards us. He knows the days He has ordained for us. And each of these days His presence is with us. He will not abandon us.

Pray & Proclaim:

Thank You, Lord, that Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are Your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand – when I awake, I am still with You.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
