Are You Thirsty and Hungry for More?

Are You Thirsty and Hungry for More?

When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty. Jeremiah 15:16 (NIV)

Imagine getting an invitation in your mailbox that read: “I am throwing a lavish banquet. It will carry on into eternity. Rich food will be served. Eat all you want. Wine and every drink you fancy will be available. Drink all you want. There is no dress code. No bring-and-share. No corkage costs. No need to make a reservation. Everyone is welcome. Everything has been prepared and paid for. Just come. Come as you are.” Signed, your Covenant Partner.

How would you respond? Would you think it’s a scam? Too good to be true? We live in a world where we are enticed to believe what seems good, but isn’t true. Not so with the Word of God. His Word is good. His Word is true. We can believe what He says in His remarkable invitation in Isaiah 55: 1-3 (NIV).

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy?

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.
Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

Eat Without Cost

This is a kind and loving invitation. An endearingly tender, yet urgent, beckoning from our heavenly Father, our Covenant Partner, to come. To feast from the bounty of His table. This invitation to come is personal. And comes from a personal God who has made a covenant with those who follow His Son, Jesus Christ. An everlasting covenant that opens the way for us to accept His invitation.

When our thirsty souls long for peace and rest, He says, Come, sit, drink; I will give you rest!” When our souls are hungry for what this world cannot offer, He says, “Come, sit, eat. I will sustain you!” He is the only One who can feed us with the rich food. His rich Words. He is the only One who can offer us the sustenance that will appease our soul’s hunger and thirst. Sustenance that costs us nothing, paid in full when Jesus died on the cross for us.

When we take a seat at His lavish table, He invites us to listen attentively and delight in His Words. His rich Word that satisfies and nourishes our souls and transforms our hearts. His life-giving Word. Isn’t this an amazing reason to come, to celebrate with Him at His banqueting table, at His feet and enter into the fullness of His joy?

You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11 (NKJV)

Reflect:

Will You accept His invitation to come?

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for inviting me to come. I accept Your invitation to come and feast at Your table, to eat and drink without cost. My soul thirsts and hungers for You. Feed me with Your rich Word so I can experience Your abundant life. Help me listen diligently to Your words so that I can experience the fullness of Your joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
