The Supernatural

 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25 (NLT)

Today we continue the Story of Saul and his encounter with Jesus on the Damascus Road.

Saul is completely bewildered as his companions take him by the hand and lead him to Via Recta, Straight Street in Damascus. For three days he is restless and cannot eat or drink. All he can do is pray. While he prays, he sees in a vision a man laying hands on him to receive his sight.

Meanwhile, in another part of Damascus, Ananias, a believer in Christ Jesus, also receives a vision from the Lord. Ananias walks closely with the Lord and is accustomed to Holy Spirit instructing him through visions. But this time the instruction is different. The Lord asks him to go to a man who had done terrible things to believers, instilling fear and dread in their hearts. Ananias protests, but the Lord instructs him to go. To lay hands on Saul so that he can receive his sight again. The Lord adds, “Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.”

When Ananias arrives at the house on the Via Recta, he finds a man whose bewilderment has turned to expectancy. A man who had encountered the Lord. When Ananias lays his hands on Saul, something like scales fall from his eyes, and he is filled with Holy Spirit.

Expect the Supernatural

To the followers of the early church, operating in the supernatural realm was part of their daily walk with their Messiah. They did not see it as something strange when they had visions in which the Lord spoke to them with specific instructions. This should be the same for us.  Engaging with God in the supernatural realm should be a real and natural part of our relationship with Jesus Christ. It should flow naturally as we abide in Christ and walk in step with Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 (NKJV)

As we abide in the true vine, we receive supernatural power to bear much fruit. Fruit that comes from living with expectancy. Expectant of the Lord to speak to us. Expectant to see His supernatural power at work. When we live with expectancy, we live our lives differently. We let go of our small thinking. We rise above the ordinary, and we look to our omnipotent God to work supernaturally through us. Are you ready to say, “God, I expect You to do mighty deeds in my life today for Your glory?”

Keep your life in constant contact with God that his surprising power may break out on the right hand and on the left.  Always be in a state of expectancy, and see that you leave room for God to come in as he likes. Oswald Chambers

Are you allowing things that distract and cloud your thinking to prevent you from living with expectancy?

Prayer:

Lord, today I want to see You work in supernatural ways in my life. Help me to rise above the ordinary and live with the expectancy that You will do great and mighty things in and through me.  In Jesus’ name. amen.
