Transformed From Fugitive to King

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Psalm 32:8 (ESV)

When we look at the lives of some familiar figures in the Bible, we see that God brought them through a process of transformation before He could use them - David, Joseph, Paul and Peter, to name a few. Each of their journeys of transformation was different. Each journey was tailor-made so that they could fulfil the calling and anointing that rested on their lives for a specific time and place in history.

David was God’s anointed king to succeed Saul. Saul’s Jealousy sent David running for his life. His life as a fugitive had highs and lows, but it was in the valley of despair that God transformed his life.

The Time in Between

When God reveals His calling to us, there will most often be a time of waiting. Time is a precious commodity to God. He never wastes time. He uses the time of waiting to prepare and equip us. This is something only He can do because He knows His plans for our lives. He knows the areas where we need to grow and develop our full potential so that He can use us for His kingdom.

This is what God did in David’s life. When David faced Goliath, God equipped young David with courage so he would become a bold warrior. When David was given the opportunity to kill Saul, God gave him the grace to spare Saul’s life. When David was on the run from Saul, God put together a ragtag group to stand with him against his enemies. This established David in his role as servant leader, shepherd, and protector. David became a man after God’s own heart 1 Samuel 13:14. A man who was willing to see the condition of his heart and allow God to purify and cleanse him. A man who was fit to become king of Israel.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 (ESV),

Just as God used circumstances during David’s time of waiting to transform him, He will allow circumstances in our lives to equip us for the work He is calling us to do. The time in between is precious time that God is gifting us so that our heart, mind and spirit can be renewed and transformed (Romans 12:2). God’s task is to equip us; our task is to abandon ourselves to His transforming power so that He can mould us to be noble instruments in His hands. Instruments of transformation so that His kingdom purposes can be established here on earth.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV)

Reflect:

As you wait for God to initiate the calling on your life, will you yield to His hand of transformation?

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for the “in between” time. Help me, Lord, to yield to Your hand as You mould and transform me so that I can be a noble instrument in Your hand, ready to be a transformer in Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
