Overwhelming Victory

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV)

In November 2025, a Nazi Enigma encryption machine was auctioned off for over £500 000 – just over R2 million. During World War II, the Germans used the Enigma to encode top-secret messages. These encoded messages provided the German military and naval forces with the strategy they needed in the war against their enemies. To prevent their enemies from accessing the codes, they changed the settings daily using secret keys.

In turn, the British developed a machine called the Bombe that could identify the secret keys the Germans used when they changed the settings. The British and the Allied Forces now had access to Germany’s war strategy. They now had the keys to reveal their enemy’s secrets and defeat them. Just as the British Intelligence Service found the keys to defeat their enemy, we have been given the keys to defeat the enemy of our soul, Satan.

Spiritual Armour

In Ephesians 6:11-17, Paul gives us the keys to a vitally important strategy in our fight against Satan. This strategy helps us find our strength not in ourselves, but in the Lord and in His mighty power. He goes on to say,

Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)

Paul urges us to put on God’s spiritual armour because we are not fighting a battle in the earthly realm, against flesh and blood, but in the spiritual realm. Every piece in the armour is a key in our fight against Satan. Let’s look at one of the pieces in the armour – the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17).

The Greek word for salvation is sōtēría, which means to save or rescue. Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ is what rescues us from Satan’s schemes, accusations and condemnation. It brings us to a place of refuge and safety. To a place of victory where we are covered with His blood (Revelation 12:11).

Jesus, who shed His blood for us, has set us free from Satan’s schemes. From his accusations and condemnation. Jesus, who now sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand, pleads our case before the Father (Romans 8:33-34). Jesus, who disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities, has gained the victory over them on the cross (Colossians 2:15).

When we put on salvation as our helmet, we declare we are covered by the blood of Jesus. We declare that the overwhelming victory through the shed blood of Jesus is ours.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. Romans 8:37 (NLT)

Are Satan’s accusations and condemnation overwhelming you? Know that Christ’s overwhelming victory is yours through Christ Jesus.

Thank You, Lord, for saving me through the precious blood You shed for me on the cross. Today, I put on my helmet of salvation, and I declare that the blood of Jesus covers me. I declare that the overwhelming victory over every scheme of Satan is mine. In Jesus’ name, amen.
