Whom Shall I Fear?

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? Psalm 27:1 (NKJV)
Today I would like to introduce a type of devotional I will call Proclaim and Pray. I will intersperse the “normal” devotionals with these Proclaim and Pray devotionals. I will do this using Scripture to proclaim and pray the Word over our lives. I will also give a bit of contextual background to the verse(s). Today we will use three verses from Psalm 27.
The author of Psalm 27 is attributed to David. Before David ascended the throne, his life was marked by turbulence and conflict with his enemies, including King Saul, who refused to abdicate so that David could take his rightful place as King of Judah and Israel. David wrote this psalm while in grave danger and pursued by his enemies. During these times of imminent danger and hardship, David looked to the Lord for protection. He looked to the Lord to take away his fears and anxiety.
Verse 1:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 (NKJV)
David calls on the Lord and boldly declares who God is. He boldly declares that he will not be afraid. By doing this, he is placing his confidence and trust in the Lord to take away his fears and anxiety and to strengthen and help him in his hour of need.
Proclaim & Pray: You, Lord, are my light and Salvation. You give me the strength I need as I face my hardships and struggles. I place my confident hope and trust in You to protect me. To rescue me. Therefore, I will not be afraid.
Verse 11:
Teach me Your way, O Lord, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. Psalm 27:11 (NKJV)
He trusted the Lord to teach him how to live during his difficult times. To lead and guide Him in his times of trouble.
Proclaim & Pray: Teach me, Lord, how to live my life in the situation I find myself in. Lead me along the path You have for me in the midst of my trouble and rescue me.
Verse 14:
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
In this verse, David speaks to his soul to encourage himself.
Proclaim & Pray: Lord, I wait for You to deliver me from the challenges I am facing. Help me to be strong and courageous as I wait for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
As you stand on the promises of His Word and pray them over your situation, trust Him to calm your fearful heart. To strengthen and embolden you as you wait on Him to deliver you. He is faithful to deliver you.
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
