Therefore I Say to You, Do Not Worry
Share
Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Matthew 6:32 (NLT)
Today we will focus on Matthew 6 and, in particular, verses 25, 33 and 34 to proclaim over our lives and to pray into. These verses reflect God’s heart for us. His care and love for us. His concern for our spiritual, emotional and mental well-being
Matthew 6:25 (NKJV)
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
When Jesus says “Do not worry about your life,” He is asking us to trust Him for everything that concerns us. When we trust Him, we don’t have to be anxious about our lives. Jesus says in Matthew 6:27 that our worries and anxiety will not add a single hour to our lives. In other words, worrying doesn’t accomplish anything. It only begets more worry. Corrie ten Boom put it this way,
“Worry is like a rocking chair; it keeps you busy but does not bring you farther.”
Pray & Proclaim:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your command that says I should not worry about my life. So, Lord, I declare that I will not worry about my life, what I will eat or drink, or about my body, what I will put on. My life is more than food and my body more than clothing.
Matthew 6:32-34 (NKJV)
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
What a wonderful assurance that our Heavenly Father knows all our needs and wants to provide for them. But He doesn’t want our minds to be occupied by our needs. This is what those who don’t believe in Him do. Instead, He instructs us to have our minds on His kingdom and His righteousness. He instructs us to seek Him first. To live like those set free and made righteous by the precious blood of Jesus. When we do, He will set us free from worry and anxiety. He will meet our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
He goes on to instruct us not to worry about the future when we have enough on our plate today. When we worry about the future, we worry about something that may or may not happen. Jesus holds the future. He knows what the future will bring. But while we are here in the present, we have the assurance that His grace and steadfast love will carry us through.
Pray & Proclaim:
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for knowing all my needs. I will seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness first. I trust You to supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory. Therefore, I will not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength. Charles Spurgeon
