Revealer of Deep and Secret Things
Share
He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him. Daniel 2:22 (NKJV)
When the king gives his wise men the task of telling him both the dream and the interpretation, they are taken aback. They accuse the King of giving them an impossible task. They say, “No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.” Daniel 2:11 (NLT). They acknowledge that the gods they serve, the idols made by man, are not powerful enough to reveal the King’s dream and to interpret it. The king is furious. How dare they tell him that this is impossible. How dare they tell him that the “secret knowledge” of the gods has limitations. He is so furious that he orders all the wise men in his kingdom to be put to death, including Daniel and his friends, who were not present with the other “wise men.”
Don’t Panic, Ask God
When Daniel hears about this, he doesn’t panic but acts with wisdom and prudence. He goes to the king, not to plead with him as the other “wise men” did. Instead, he asks for time to consult his God so that he can receive revelation regarding the dream. When Daniel returns home, he urges his friends to stand with him in prayer and seek God’s face. To ask God to have compassion on them and save them. To reveal Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation. In His lovingkindness, God reveals the secret to Daniel in a vision. God’s revelation of the deep and secret things compels Daniel to praise Him. he responds by exalting Him.
“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him”. Daniel 2:20,22 (NKJV)
Nebuchadnezzar did not know the God that Daniel served. If he did, he would know that He is a God who reveals deep and secret things.
When we are fearful and overwhelmed, we can, like Daniel and his friends, seek God’s face. We can seek him for compassion and mercy. We can ask Him to rescue us out of our desperate situation. We can ask Him for revelation. That’s what Jeremiah 33:3 (NLT) says,
“Ask me, and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.”
We can ask God for insight so that we can better understand our situation. We can seek His wisdom so that we know what to do. We can ask Him to reveal remarkable things to us. Things we cannot know with our natural minds. We can do this when we have a close and intimate relationship with Him. When we expect Him to move in supernatural ways in our lives. He is a miracle-working God and will move heaven on earth to save His children.
When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honour them. Psalm 91:14-15 (NLT)
Reflection:
Will you trust God for His discernment and wisdom in your desperate situation? Will you trust Him to reveal His remarkable secrets to you?
Prayer:
Lord, You see my desperate situation. Have compassion on me and rescue me. I pray for Your discernment and wisdom so that I know what to do. I ask You, Lord, to reveal Your remarkable secrets to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
