His Word Will Not Return Empty

His Word Will Not Return Empty

O Lord, I will honour and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them. Isaiah 25:1 (NLT)

Some of us might remember the days when “snail mail” was the norm. You would write a letter. Put it in an envelope. Place the address on the envelope. Put a stamp on it. Place it in a letterbox and trust the letter will reach the person to whom it is addressed. However, on rare occasions, the postman would deliver a letter to the wrong address. Or the person to whom the letter is addressed no longer lives there. The person receiving the letter would write on the envelope, “Return to sender.” If the sender had written their address on the back of the envelope, the letter would be returned to them.

In cases like these, the words that were written in the letter might never reach the person to whom they were addressed. The words would not accomplish the purpose for which they were written and sent. How wonderful to know that this is not the case with God’s Word.

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:8-11 (NKJV)

His Word Has Authority

God’s Word is irrevocable. Everything in nature is designed to accomplish what He has spoken at creation. So when rain and snow fall from heaven, they are meant to accomplish exactly what God planned. He planned for them to water the earth so it can flourish and bear fruit. So when God’s Word is sent forth, whether it’s a Word found in Scripture or a personal word that He has spoken to us, we can be sure it will accomplish what He desires. It will achieve the purposes for which it was sent. It will flourish and bear fruit. This is an amazing promise from God, who never reneges on His Word. His promises are always “yes and amen” in Christ Jesus 2 Corinthians 1:20.

When we speak out His Word, power is unleashed, and things change. Our hearts and our minds change. Instead of fear, despair and hopelessness, we are encouraged. We receive peace that passes all understanding to guard our hearts (Philippians 4:7), hope that will not disappoint (Romans 5:5), and grace that is sufficient for us 2 Corinthians 12:9. Our all-powerful God has all authority over heaven and earth. When He speaks, things change. Mountains move. Walls tumble down. Divine doors open. His will is accomplished.

Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it. Isaiah 46:11 (NKJV)

Reflection:

Take time to speak God’s promises in His Word over your life.

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, that Your Words have power to change my situation. As I speak Your life-giving Words over my life, I pray for You to intervene. I pray for mountains to move, walls to come tumbling down, and doors to open in Jesus’ name, amen.
