Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. Hebrews 4:13 (NLT)
Psalm 139 is a psalm of David. This wonderful Psalm speaks about our Heavenly Father’s love and care for us, His children. It speaks about a Father who watches over us, knows us intimately and is with us in every situation. A Father who created us and knew us even before we were conceived in our mother’s womb. A Father who is with us in our darkest moments and will never leave us. For our proclaim and pray today, we will use verses from Psalm 139:1-4.
Psalm 139:1-4
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue, you, Lord, know it completely.
These verses declare God’s knowledge of us. They declare that God knows us through and through (Matthew 10:30). He knows our character. He even knows our thoughts. The fact that God knows our thoughts may sound scary, because we know that our thoughts aren’t always pure. But the wonderful thing about God knowing our thoughts is that He is able to redirect them from self-centred thoughts to God-centred thoughts. When our thoughts are centred on Him, He can transform us and renew our minds so that we may know His good and pleasing will.
Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 (NLT)
He knows us so intimately that He knows what we will say, even before we say it. This, of course, begs the question: If God knows what we are going to say, why doesn’t He stop us from putting our proverbial foot in it? It would certainly save us a lot of embarrassment and awkwardness. It could save us from self-condemnation. God could easily do that, but this is part of His sanctifying process. The process that we go through to become more Christ-like. To be changed into His glorious image. This is His forgiving heart that does not condemn us when we condemn ourselves (Romans 8:1). This is the heart of our Father who knows our sinful hearts and yet loves us anyway.
Pray & Proclaim:
Heavenly Father, You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. Thank You for knowing me through and through. Thank You that I matter to You.
You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. Thank You that You know my every thought. Lord, redirect my self-centred thoughts and centre them on You. Transform my mind so that I may know Your good and perfect will.
You discern my going out and my lying down and are familiar with all my ways. Watch over me, Father, wherever I am.
Before a word is on my tongue, You know it completely. When I am ready to speak, put a guard over my mouth. When I say things that displease You, forgive and sanctify me in Your love and compassion. In Jesus’ name, amen.
To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved ......... brings us to the place where we can finally drop our pretences, give up the need to hide, and rest. Tim Keller
