You Will No Longer Live in Shame

Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. Romans 10:11 (NKJV)
God is a God of restoration. We can trace His hand of restoration throughout the Old and New Testament, culminating in God’s ultimate restoration of His creation to Himself through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross. We live in a broken world, and we all face brokenness in some form - broken relationships, sickness, lack. Our brokenness can make us feel ashamed, disgraced. We fear what others may think. Today we will be looking at some verses from Isaiah 54 which talk about God’s promised restoration of His people after they experienced shame and disgrace during their captivity in Babylon. We will look at their practical applications for our lives today as we proclaim them over our brokenness and pray into them.
Isaiah 54:1 (NLT)
“Sing, O childless woman, you who have never given birth! Break into loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, you who have never been in labour.
God refers to His people, Israel, as a barren woman. In the Old Testament, and even today in some cultures, a barren woman is associated with shame and humiliation. God saw the shame and humiliation they went through during their captivity. Despite their barrenness, He called them to break forth in joyful song, to sing in anticipation of their release from captivity and His promised restoration to Him. We can do the same in our brokenness. We too can break into joyful song in anticipation of God’s restoration, His blessings and fruitfulness as we make room for Him by staying in Jesus, the true vine. The One who has restored us to Himself through His shed blood. The One in whom we can have hope of restoration (Romans 5:3–4).
Isaiah 54:4-5 (NLT)
Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you.
You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood.
For your Creator will be your husband; the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth.
God saw their shame and disgrace and restored their dignity and worth because of His everlasting covenant with them. This everlasting covenant is a betrothal, a marriage between God and His people and cannot be broken. He is therefore obligated to rescue and restore them. God has also made an everlasting covenant with us through Jesus Christ. We are His bride. He is our Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, Jehovah Sabaoth, who fights for us against the powers of darkness in this broken world. He removes our shame and disgrace and crowns us with His everlasting love and compassion, His dignity and self-worth.
Pray & Proclaim:
Thank You, Lord, for being my Redeemer and Restorer. I will break into joyful song in anticipation of Your restoration. I will stay in You, the true vine and make room for Your blessings and fruitfulness. I will not fear. I will no longer live in shame and disgrace because You, Lord Jesus, the Lord of Heaven’s armies, have made a covenant with me. You are my redeemer. You are the God of all the earth who takes away my shame and redeems my dignity and self-worth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
