He Will Do It Again

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)
David Livingstone was a medical missionary who served in Africa during the 19th century. He saw God rescue him many times. However, there was one instance of God’s rescue that he didn’t witness with his own eyes. Close to the village where David Livingstone and his team were stationed lived a hostile tribe that was not open to the gospel message. One day, the chief sent a message to Livingstone that they were coming to kill him and everyone in the compound that night. He feared not only for their lives, but that the work which he had established over many years would be lost. He did the only thing he could do – pray. God graciously answered his prayers and their lives were spared.
Years later, the hostile chief and his tribe came to know the Lord. When Livingstone asked the chief why they had not carried out their threats to kill them, he related an extraordinary story. The chief said that when they approached the compound, they saw 39 giant warriors surrounding the village. The sight frightened them, and they ran away. When Livingstone returned to his church in Scotland, he testified of how God had supernaturally spared their lives when the tribesmen came to kill them. After the meeting, the church secretary asked whether he remembered the date this had happened. Livingstone was meticulous in recording events on the mission field and knew the exact date. The secretary then showed him the church diary. On that date, a prayer meeting was held with 39 people in attendance.
Nothing is too Difficult
This is an extraordinary miracle performed by our God who specialises in the extraordinary. In the impossible. The same God who did this for David Livingstone can do it for you and for me. He is a God who has shown Himself powerful from the beginning of creation, and He most certainly won’t stop now. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
What He did for Moses and the people of Israel when He parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14), for Daniel in the Lion’s den (Daniel 6), for Joshua when he stopped time (Joshua 10:1-15), for the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25–34), He can do for you and me, no matter what our situation. Nothing is too difficult for our almighty God.
Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV)
God is waiting for us to call on Him in times of trouble. He is waiting for us to trust Him to command heaven’s armies to rescue us. He did it for ordinary people, like Moses, Daniel, Joshua, Elisha, Lazarus and countless others. He did it for David Livingstone. Surely our loving and compassionate God will move heaven’s armies to do it again for you and me.
Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father; There is no shadow of turning with You. Thomas O. Chisholm
Reflection:
Will you trust God to move heaven’s armies on your behalf?
Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, that You are a miracle-working God. You see my desperate situation. Lord, move by Your great power and Your outstretched arm on my behalf. I trust Your almighty power to do miracles, signs and wonders in my situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
