God Knows

God Knows

Don't worry about your future. God knows you completely, accepts you unconditionally and loves you wholeheartedly. You can trust Him. Nicky Gumbel

In the world we live in today, we don’t need to look far to get information on a plethora of subjects. For many of us, our “go-to” when it comes to finding the information we need is a search engine like Google. Nowadays, we have AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools at our disposal to guide us in the information we are looking for. Many of us cannot fathom how these search engines and AI tools can give us the information we need in a split second. However, these tools are created by finite, fallible human beings. Their intelligence and skill do not compare to the infinite and omniscient God who created them. The omniscient God whose intelligence is perfect and therefore supersedes any search engine or AI tool.

God is omniscient. That means that He knows all things. He knows everything about His vast creation. In Psalm 8, we see that while David praises God for the magnificence of His creation, He is amazed that God is aware and attentive to us, mere human beings.

Psalm 8:3-4, he says,

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”

God knows. God knows everything that happens in His vast universe, and He knows everything about you and me. This might be scary for some of us, but at the same time, very reassuring. He knows our rebellious hearts, our disobedience, and yet He loves us and cares about us. He knows our weaknesses and our fickle nature, and yet He doesn’t reject us. He knows our brokenness, our pain, our struggles. He sees them. But He doesn’t just hang around and do nothing. No! His love and mercy towards us drive Him to intervene in our lives. To intervene in the things that we wrestle with. The things that we have no answers to. He is concerned about everything that we are concerned about – big or small.

Psalm 138:8 (NKJV) says,

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”

The ESV translation says it this way: “The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me.”

He will not forsake us, the work of His hands, but will bring His purposes to pass in everything we face in our lives.

When we are fearful and anxious and cannot find a way out, His purpose is to give us peace. This is what He speaks over us in John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

When we have lost hope and don’t know where to turn to, He says to us in Isaiah 40:31:

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

When we feel rejected and abandoned, He says to us in Deuteronomy 31:6,

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

We are fully known by God (Psalm 139:1-4), and because of His eternal love for us, He will move heaven and earth to rescue us. This is what He did when He gave His only begotten Son to die on the cross to save us. When we come to Him with our weaknesses, our burdens and cares, His eternal love and mercy compel Him to move heaven and earth to save us out of all our troubles. Knowing our God, the God who knows all, should compel us to worship and adore Him.

Worship is when the mind apprehends great truth about God, and the heart kicks in with deep feelings of brokenness or wonder and gladness and admiration and gratitude, and the mouth says something like, ‘Blessed be God! O blessed and praised and honoured and glorified be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. John Piper

Reflection

Have there been times when you’ve wondered whether God really knows or cares about the struggles that you go through? Take time to meditate on the verses of scripture used in the devotional and declare them over your life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You know all things and know me completely. You know the minutest detail of my life. I give all my concerns and cares to You. I pray that you will perfect everything that concerns me. Dispel the fear and anxiety that try to overwhelm me and fill me with Your peace. Take my hopelessness and fill me with Your hope that does not disappoint. Move heaven and earth and save me from all my troubles. In Jesus’ name, amen.
