God’s Will – Spirit-Led

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25 (NLT)

When Billy Graham saw Ruth at Wheaton College, it took him a month to find the courage to ask her out on a date. After that first date, Ruth got on her knees and told the Lord that if she could spend the rest of her life serving Him with Billy, she would consider it the greatest privilege. Billy was not aware of this, and on more than one occasion he thought he didn’t stand a chance with her. He saw in her culture, poise, and intelligence superior to his own. But that didn’t stop him from asking for her hand in marriage. On July 6, 1941, after months of prayer, Ruth sent Billy a letter accepting his proposal.

Ruth faced an immensely important decision concerning Billy’s marriage proposal. She had expressed her desire to God about Billy, but she also understood that her desire may not be God’s will for her life. Ruth took time to lay her desires before the throne of God and ask Him for the confirmation she needed before she accepted his proposal.

Just like Ruth, we all have desires that we would like God to fulfil. Decisions that we need to make. Some of them may be small. Others may be bigger, more important decisions that will dramatically change the course of our lives. These decisions may be – which church we should attend, the career path we need to embark on, which friendships to forge, whom we should marry, whether we should accept a job offer, relocating to another part of the country or perhaps immigrating to another country, or how God want to use us to serve Him in church or outside the church.

Holy Spirit, Our Guide

These kinds of decision-making can be extremely daunting, but we need not fear or be anxious; God has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us. To give us wisdom and discernment so that we will make decisions that align with His will and plan for our lives. Holy Spirit will never lead us in a direction that contradicts the Word of God. So we need to be mindful of this. His Holy Spirit will guide us along our God-ordained pathway when we are willing to be guided by Him. He will never be forceful. He will operate within the scope that we give Him. He will move in hearts that are surrendered. He will speak to ears that are inclined to Him.

When we lay our decision-making before the Lord, we are assured that He hears us and will answer our prayers.

And this is the confidence that we have towards him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:14 (ESV)

Are the big decisions you need to make causing you anxiety? Will you allow Holy Spirit to lead you so that you can make God-ordained decisions?

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for Your Holy Spirit. I surrender the decisions I need to make to You. I pray for Your wisdom and discernment to make decisions that align with Your will for my life. Lead me along Your God-ordained path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
