Supernatural Kindness

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

We are back in the city of Dothan. Elisha and his servant are aware of the presence of the army of the Lord of Hosts  - the vast number of horses and chariots of fire. But they are also aware that the threat from the enemy has not dissipated. They are still surrounding them. There is still a real and present danger. Elisha knows that he has to keep his eye on the Lord, to press in so that he can know how to pray. So that he can gain wisdom and understanding. Elisha prays a bold prayer. He asks the Lord to strike the whole army with blindness. His prayer is miraculously answered.

Elisha leads the blind army to the region of Samaria, where the Lord opens their eyes. The king of Israel is astounded at what he sees and is eager to kill the Syrian army, but Elisha stops him. Instead, Elisha prepares a great feast for them and sends them on their way. The Syrian raiders return their kindness by staying away from the land of Israel

Divine Intervention

The divine knowledge Elisha had regarding the presence of the army of the Lord of Hosts gave him the boldness that he needed to pray prayers that would unleash God’s supernatural power here on earth. When we find ourselves in situations where we feel like there is no way out. We feel like we’ve exhausted every possible avenue. We feel the weight of our burdens crushing us. Why not ask God to open your spiritual eyes and give you the absolute assurance that He is there with you? Why not pray bold prayers as Elisha did for God to intervene supernaturally?

Part of God’s intervention may include Him asking you, as He did Elisha, to be kind, merciful and compassionate to those who may have caused your difficulties and hardships.

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12(NLT)

Our acts of kindness may not immediately change our situation. What it will do is change us. It will help us to be conformed to the image of Jesus. It will help us walk in step with Holy Spirit and follow His leading so that we gain wisdom and understanding. It will help us bear the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Galatians 5:22). It will help us to express Christ’s love in difficult situations. Christ’s love that will soften hearts and usher them out of darkness into the kingdom of His light. Christ’s love that will open their eyes to see Jesus, the Lord of Heaven’s armies.

Are you facing situations in your life that feels like there’s no way out. Why not pray bold prayers and trust God to supernaturally intervene?

Prayer:

Lord, You see the difficult situation I find myself in. Intervene with Your supernatural power. Show me what You want me to do to show kindness and  love to those who have caused this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
