When God says, “Do Nothing, Just Wait”

Waiting on God requires the willingness to bear uncertainty, to carry within oneself the unanswered question, lifting the heart to God about it whenever it intrudes upon one's thoughts. Elisabeth Elliot
When we are waiting on God to intervene in our challenges and difficulties, there will always be a measure of uncertainty we need to contend with. These uncertainties are what cause us to worry and be anxious. We worry about whether God will really answer our prayers. We worry about when He will answer and whether He will answer us the way we hope.
Nothing is Too Hard for Him
I remember a time when I needed to move out of the apartment I was renting and search for a new home. The country where I was living at the time had a tremendous housing shortage. What exacerbated my situation was that I had just over a month to find a new apartment, and on top of that, I needed to be out of my apartment in the middle of the month. As I took this need to the Lord, I felt Him telling me not to do anything. To just wait on Him. I thought this was the craziest answer! But I decided to put my confidence in the Lord and trust that He knew what He was doing. This was not easy for someone like me who tends to be impatient. Two weeks before I was scheduled to vacate my apartment, a colleague of mine pointed me to an article in a magazine published by the hospital where I was employed. It turned out that my employee was partnering with a housing agency that gave hospital employees preference in rentals in an area that was within walking distance of the hospital. When I visited the agency the following day, I was elated to hear that an apartment was available and that I was eligible to rent. But of course, the question uppermost in my mind at that moment was, “When can I move in?” When I went to view the apartment, I found it was occupied by a couple who had been planning to move out in the middle of the following month, on the exact date that I needed to vacate my apartment!
How wonderful it is to know that when we allow God to have control over our difficult situations, He comes through for us even when our situation seems impossible.
“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you! Jeremiah 32:17 (NLT)
Reflection
Are you facing situations that seem impossible? Are you worried about the uncertainties you are dealing with? Will you take time to pray about them when they enter your mind? Will you trust God to do what only He can do? Remember, nothing is too hard for Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I give You my worries and anxieties, the uncertainties because of the challenges I am facing. Help me, Lord, to trust that You will meet my needs at just the right time. Thank You, Lord, that nothing is too hard for You. I trust You, Lord, to intervene and do the impossible in my situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
